Why should I order extra flooring? How much?

When ordering flooring for a normal job (i.e. were the flooring is run parallel to walls, not diagonal or specialty pattern) 10% additional flooring should be ordered. Additional flooring ordered will allow for fitting and trimming of space during installation, ensuring there is enough material to complete the project.

What is the difference between “horizontal” and “vertical” bamboo flooring?

Natural bamboo stock is hollow and the walls of the plant are fairly thin. Strips of bamboo are therefore laminated together to make our 5/8” flooring. The terms “horizontal” and “vertical” refer to the manner in which bamboo strips are laminated together. In the horizontal style, the strips are laid flat so the top surface shows the bamboo’s natural growth rings, or “knuckles.” In the vertical style, the strips are turned on their sides and laminated together in long, slender rows creating a different appearance.

Can a bamboo floor be floated?

The bamboo flooring is a four-sided tongue and groove product that can be nailed to a wood sub-floor or glued directly to a concrete sub-floor. A floating installation is not recommended.

How does your bamboo flooring hold up to high humidity?

As long as you let the flooring acclimate for no less than 72 hours, with boxes opened and laid flat in the room where it is to be installed, high humidity should not affect the floor.

Can I clean my bamboo floor with a mop?

Yanchi Bamboo flooring cleans easily with a Swiffer or similar type dry mop. As with a hardwood floor, you should avoid excessive moisture. A slightly damp mop may be used to mop up a spill.

When ordering bamboo flooring how much extra should I order to allow for waste?

As a rule of thumb for non-professionals, add 10% for waste and cuts depending on your skill level and the layout of the area.

Can I install bamboo flooring in a bathroom?

Bamboo floors are not covered by warranty if installed in a bathroom. Like hardwood flooring, bamboo could swell if excessive water is left to stand.

What is the difference between bamboo flooring and hardwood flooring?

There are several advantages to using bamboo flooring compared to hardwood flooring. First, bamboo flooring is an environmentally friendly product. It takes only a few years for a bamboo plant to grow to maturity, while it takes decades for hardwood trees. And when bamboo is harvested, the root continues to live and produces new stock. Each year, one “mother plant” generates several new bamboo stems that grow to full length in a few months, and to mature hardness in about five years. Bamboo plants are therefore quickly replenished following a harvest. Second, bamboo is actually harder than hardwood so it makes a more durable flooring. Third, in most cases bamboo is less expensive than hardwood while installation costs are the same. Hardwood installers and contractors need no additional training to install bamboo flooring. Bamboo can be installed using exactly the same tools and methods as are used for installing hardwood.

Can I wax my urethane floor?

Yes, however, it is not recommended. Once you wax a floor, it should be maintained as a wax-finished floor. Wax may inhibit the adhesion of future application of top coating materials or make it slippery.

Where can I install solid or engineered products?

Solid products can only be installed on or above the outside soil line. Engineered flooring can be installed on, above, and below the soil line.

Are there any rooms in the house where I should not install hardwood floors?

We do not recommend hardwood flooring in full bathrooms that have a shower or bathtub. These rooms have the potential for standing puddles of water that can damage wood floors.

What type of adhesive do I need to use with my hardwood floor installation?

Bruce recommends several. Connection TM PR+, Equalizer TM and ProConnect TM . Equalizer is the only adhesive recommended for the installation of Natural Reflections®.

Is the 2 in 1 underlayment needed if there is a foam already attached to the backing?

No. Additional underlayment is not recommended. However, if installing over concrete you must use the moisture barrier sheeting.

Where can laminate flooring be installed?

You can install Bruce Laminate flooring over virtually any existing floor — wood, and wood underlayment, concrete, ceramic and resilient tile, vinyl sheet flooring, even carpet, if it’s fully adhered to a wood subfloor, and no more than 1/4″ thick. That means you don’t have to pull up old floors and deal with the mess or the hassle of repairing most subfloor damage. Just make sure your subfloor is structurally sound, dry, clean and flat.

Can laminate flooring be installed on stairs?

Yes. You’ll need to fully adhere the flooring to the stairs without using foam underlayment and follow the special installation instructions for stair installations.
